Demonstration Videos

Demonstrations of how to use Empedocles to practice the built in procedures will be presented here:

(3) Examining the instrument tracks

This demonstration shows how the movement of the instruments can be examined later to see exactly how the surgeon moved the instruments. The white dots follow the movement of the instruments as they move along the path taken by the surgeon:

(4) Shadows

Empedocles can generate shadows as the instrument move in the proximity of the tissue (as would happen in reality.) How shadows are perceived by the observer can be a useful clue in spatial awareness when a stereoscopy is not available:

(5) Walking the bowel

This demonstration illustrates how Empedocles is used to learn some very basic steps. Here we see a simple exercise in hand to hand coordination in a procedure we call "walking the bowel":

(6) Behind the scenes

This clip reveals the 3D mesh model that we paint and deform, can you spot it:

(7) Pushing and Pulling

This demonstration shows some of the general actions of pushing and pulling:

(8) Bleeding

This shows how a small bleed can be simulated, when a vessel is pierced:
